About us

Having trained at the RAD, Katherine Richardson BA (Hons) LRAD, ARAD set up The Village School of Dance in 2008 in the heart of Wimbledon Village. After running the school for over 10 years and starting a family, she joined forces with Chloe Chapman (DDE ISTD Ballet, Tap & Modern) who have worked together to build the school to where it is today.

The school has grown to encompass the needs of all the dancers who attend, running Christmas productions and summer schools, while offering a full range of Ballet, Modern, Tap, Pointe Work and Body Conditioning classes for children and adults, as well as Darcey Bussell’s brilliant high-intensity fitness class (which is also great fun!), DDMIX.

We pride ourselves on the atmosphere we have at the school. It’s been great to see so many progress over the years, whether it’s children enjoying a hobby or working towards becoming a professional dancer or teacher, or adults looking to keep fit and have a giggle – we welcome everyone to our family-friendly community!

It’s our mission to spread the magic of dance far and wide, so we have grown the school from just a couple of classes a week to a school that has two branches, classes running six days a week, a competition team as well as offering numerous weekly sessions in local primary schools and nurseries.

“It is always a pleasure to work with Katherine. She’s a real professional and is wonderfully enthusiastic with her students”

Darcey Bussell - CBE

DISCOVER OURsyllabus

Ballet lessons follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and whilst most of the jazz and tap classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Syllabus, some also involve free work where the school has set up its own format to follow.

We know it’s important to educate our students in every aspect of dance so throughout all classes, the students are given the opportunity to improvise and choreograph their own routines. For example, junior modern classes are filled with routines danced to songs from High School Musical to Mama Mia!

Examinations in modern, tap and ballet are taken every three to four terms and the school has a 100% pass rate.
